I live in an area of very "hard" water. Water filters are essential to prolong the life of the appliance.

With the shipping, these filters, which are just a tiny pouch of charcoal, are over $3 each. If your water is really bad, I guess you might prefer to pay this for a tablespoon of charcoal in a paper bag. With our water, there is no difference in taste. :(

It's hard for me to believe that some of the stores that sell Cuisinart coffee makers don't carry the charcoal filters. When I have found them they are 'over the top' expensive. I found this to be the best deal around. The shipping was fast and the price was right, and that made me happy.
