Perfect! Mar 08, 2010
By James J. Pyke
"Pajkossy"
If you have a New Wave Enviro housing, this is a replacement filter that will work for it. I used to buy replacement filters for mine at Wh*le F**ds, but they stopped carrying them. I wasn't sure if this would work for me, but I gave it a shot, and it fits perfectly.
My city water is clean, but I don't like the taste of it. This filter makes it taste like the finest purified spring water. That's what I want, and that's what this product delivers.
That is to say that I'm interested mainly in TASTE. If you're picky/concerned enough about water quality from a chemical content perspective to desire certification on a filter, than maybe you'd like to pay $500 for something like this: Multi-Pure Countertop Water Filter - Certified for Arsenic Reduction!. While it's nice to know that such products exist, $60 covers my concerns just fine. If I want to get it done, I think my city offers in-home water quality testing - yours might too. (This is in reference to a reviewer who, I think unfairly, gives this filter one star for not being something that it doesn't claim to be.)
Bugs me when people give misleading negative reviews because they want a product to be different from what it is.

Might be worth it to you. Nov 05, 2006
By Dugan Murphy This filter is wicked expensive, but you get a lot of pros for that con. It is supposed to take out a lot of crap and how do I know? The water tastes noticeably better, though (this is Cincinnati water I'm drinking; if I was back in Portland, Maine I wouldn't bother with a filter), so it must be doing something. It's best feature for me, however, besides the filtering power - which it boasts as being top-notch - is its usability. You hook the thing up to your facet and it shoots out better tasting and supposedly healthier water about as fast as the facet itself. Yeah, and consider that one of these wallet-busting replacement filters lasts three or four times longer than their brita counterparts. Add to that this one's usability, and you've got a soundish investment.

the top choice of health food stores & co-ops everywhere Mar 17, 2009
By DaveClarkVibe This product is the one of choice by what is likely one of the most health conscious and toughest critics...health nuts. I first saw the product at the main food co-op in Atlanta, and then saw it at the neighborhood health food store and other similar locations. Their selection criteria for products is very high. I've been satisfied with the taste and cleanliness of the water. We've been using it for over a year (replacing every 12 months), and love it.

Good filter, good price Jan 14, 2011
By P. Radloff We've been using the New Wave Enviro filter for over ten years. This filter has adequate media to provide good filtration of a number of types of contaminants. The New Enviro website has (now quite old) test data confirming removal rates for some contaminants. The replacement filter is sold at a good price on Amazon, much less expensive than at the local Whole Foods. It gets 4 stars instead of 5 because it's hard to open the housing to replace the filter and because the product isn't NSF-certified. Certainly New Wave has sold enough units by now to be able to afford product certification.

Filter replacement cartridge Dec 24, 2010
By W. Tobben It might be the placebo effect of the expectations after coughing up a considerable sum for what amounts to nothing more than a filter replacement cartridge. Nevertheless, the water does taste good.
