"Renal Physiology" provides, in compact monograph form, complete coverage of the structure and function of the renal system for use on both traditional and integrated physiology courses. This is essentially a "mini-text" on one of the seven major organ systems covered with a traditional mammalian physiology course at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Objectives, self-study questions and answers, and selected annotated references are provided for each chapter to help students understand and retain text material.

2Do not use this book as a primary source.  Dec 13, 2007 By C. A. Kluwe
This book is riddled with mistakes. These mistakes are integral to the understanding of physiology, not just grammatical or spelling errors. Frequently while reading this book I had to reference several other sources. If you buy this book, be aware that you will spend a great deal of time re-reading and thinking through a concept only to learn that the opposite is true (i.e., the book refers to pseudohypoaldosteronism as avid NaCl reabsorption).

As a review, the book can be fun b/c you will pick up on errors. As a primary learning source, it can be very frustrating.

5excellent book for Renal - please see it for yourself  Jan 09, 2011 By Zsuzsanna Pearson
I also have to defend this book. I guess everyone has their learning styles and not everyone will like the same book. So, if you are someone who likes to understand thoroughly the different aspects of kidney function (Na+, Cl-, Ca2+, phospate, osmolality, acid-base etc) then this is the book for you. You get a short "big picture" description in the "introduction to the kidney" which will suffice - you can make lots more general statements about the kidney BUT that's not useful if you don't understand the details, so I can see why the authors did not spend more time on general stuff. Each chapter is very clearly written, the figures are great, there's lots of pathology connections made, and the 6 integrative case studies are are wonderful way to bring things together. BUT you do have to invest the time in reading this book, as you can't just flip through a chapter in 10 mins and hope to understand the content (though you can't do that with any other book, either). This book is designed to give you a great foundation for renal pathology if you are willing to actually read it all the way through. It was very helpful for me for our renal course, and now I'm revisiting it while preparing for the boards.

3Good enough  Apr 10, 2008 By Sloppy Joe "Joey"
Overall, the book wasn't that bad. It provided a nice overview and has a nice practice exam at the end. The biggest problem that I had was that the book was riddled with random errors, which makes learning renal physiology for the first time difficult. Also, I wish that there were explanations for their answers to the exam at the back of the book.

1Very confusing textbook  May 20, 2009 By Matthew Klein
I do not recommend this book at all. It is very poorly written, very confusing, and does not do a adequate job of explaining the complex mechanisms of the kidney. Go find a different textbook.

1WORST RENAL PHYSIOLOGY BOOK I HAVE EVER READ  Apr 30, 2009 By wee
Worst renal physio book i ever read. FULL OF ERRORS that are essential to understanding physio. Whoever gave the book 5 stars is smoking crack/ isn't a med student/ or most likely is one of the authors/ a fake reviewer.

DO NOT bUY THIS BOOK!!!!! I thought it would be okay and i would pick up on the errors but they are seriously terrible
