Usually ships in 1 business days | | | | | | Water Exercises for Osteoarthritis contains over 100 individual exercises and examples of exercise routines. It is richly illustrated with over 500 pictures so the reader can see all of the elements that go into an exercise program: equipment, warm-ups, stretching, aerobic exercises, strength exercises, balance exercises, exercises focusing on the abdominals, neck exercises, and cool downs. Included, also, is information on medications, vitamins and minerals, herbs, diet, and nutrition.
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, affecting over 21 million people in the United States. As Americans age, the number of people affected is expected to increase to 40 million by 2020.
The pain of osteoarthritis causes people to stop exercising and leaves them vulnerable to all of the health risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle. Luckily, water exercises provide a way to reduce the pain and stiffness of arthritis. At the same time they increase endurance and strength.
Rather than making osteoarthritis worse, exercise actually helps you get better physically and emotionally. The physical benefits of water exercise include easier movements and more energy. The psychological benefits include increased independence, less depression and anxiety, and an overall feeling of well being. Water Exercises for Osteoarthritis will help you get all of this and more. | | | |

Water Exercise Improves Quality of Life Oct 13, 2008
By B. Wiggins
"Babette"
This aquatic exercise book is full of information and easy to use. Many of my questions were answered about the connection between arthritis, other chronic diseases and the quality of my life. This book is a useful tool for designing an individual program that includes exercise (endurance, flexibility, and strength), diet, and alternative remedies. I have taken Ann Rosenstein's advice and developed an individual exercise program that is enjoyable and interesting. I am more flexible and stronger. The quality of my life has improved, and I am enjoying life again!

water exercises Aug 07, 2010
By Inez P. Nordahl It is a Water Exercises for Osteoarthritis: The Effective Way to Reduce Pain and Stiffness, While Increasing Endurance and Strengthvery good exercise book for those of us who have osteoarthritis. Many usual exercises. would recommend for those who have similar problems and like to use the water because of less impact of hurting joints.

The book has many illustratons.
I wish that they had cross-refrenced for osteoarthritis joints. If you're focused on other body parts, you have to select the exercises.
But it's an excellent book.

Exercise is great for OA Nov 02, 2009

This is a very complete book of exercises. Any exercise done in water is much easier on the joints, yet works the muscles wonderfully. I'm sure these exercises will bring some pain relief and increased mobility; but I haven't yet been able to try them, due to other health problems. I'm looking forward to getting into the pool, with my book on the deck.

Just not written well Jul 10, 2009
By C. Struven While some of the exercises in here are good, a lot are very poorly described, and the book is extremely inconcise throughout. Another issue is the book assumes the reader will be using a pool in a rehabilitation facility. A great deal of the exercises are impossible without a deep-water pool. Many are impossible in an above-ground pool. A great deal are ineffective without pricey aquatic exercise equipment. A number require a pool long enough that one could swim laps.
My main complaint, however, is the photography. The models used in the book, unfortunately, are not the sorts of people who inspire one to do the exercises in the book. While there's something to be said for showing pictures of the target readership performing the exercises, it doesn't work well for this book.
