Distilled Water at Home Sep 11, 2007
By S. Lindsey I have owned the Waterwise Distiller for six years, during which time I have distilled on average a gallon of water every other day. It's simple to use and pays for itself in about one and one-half years. I hate lugging home gallons of water from the grocery, not to mention the money I save. When my distiller failed, I immediately sent for another one. In a world where pollution rules, it's nice to know that at least the water I'm drinking is pure.

DO NOT PURCHASE Sep 10, 2004
By LivingForJ I purchased this item after going through the reviews and articles of countless other water distiller sites. I had 3 different models in mind. One was only $99 (http://www.wholesalewaterdistillers.com/), this waterwise one at $200 (available through http://www.hacres.com/home.asp ) and one for $400.
The $99 is recommended if not willing to pay a high fee. The webaddress I gave may look a little cheezy, but you can call the owner up directly and speak to him about the products. In fact, he strongly does not recommend this Waterwise Product. He says many people have trouble with the timer and something to do with the plastic. Also Waterwise has sold this modle over to Kenmore (Sears brand) and it has the same probs. (Kenmore model can be purchased anywhere from $100-200)
The $400 model my family owns. It is complete stainless steel, not plastic anywhere and it has a lifetime warrenty. Unfourtuantly, I do not have the website at this time to list it here. It's the top of the line in home distillers and has a life time warrently (compared to waterwise 1 year)
Now my nightmare with waterwise. I ordered through the hacres.com place I listed above. It only cost $200 with shipping. I had wanted a water distiller for some time. We don't drink the tap water for the contaiments in it, and I'm tired of getting Reverse Osmose water from water machines and paying all that money. Well when it arrived, it was a little bigger than I expected. Do plan on having it in an area where all the fans can freely circulate. The first batch of water needs to be dumped, just to clean the product. My 2nd and 3rd batches tasted and smelled bad....and so did all of those after it. On the 3rd morning after having the product, it wouldn't work. I thought perhaps I was doing something wrong so I called waterwise and told them my problem (the carafat light was coming on, thereby not allowing me to start the distilling process). They looked up in the computer the message, put me on hold and said that they were shipping out a whole new machine to me.
Okay, that was bad news...I asked what was the matter. Wouldn't you know it, it was the same thing the gentleman on the phone told me about from the $99 water distiller place. The timer broke and it was irreplaceable. Being that my machine was under warrently, they were shipping out a whole new one to me and wanted me to send my broken one back to them.
Well when everything hit me sometime later, I relized that I didn't want a machine like that. I wanted to have my water distiller around for more than a year (esp at that price). So I decided to send everything back...which resulted in a big headache from both waterwise and hacers.com. Each company wanted back the broken distiller. After many phone calls, the situation was finally solved. I never want to go through such an experience again.
To sum things up, do not purchase this model.

Questions Answered Jan 26, 2011
By S. Putt I bought the Waterwise 9000 last spring. Since, I have distilled 200+ gallons. The items uses 790 watts when running. Cost in my rural area is about 25 cents of electricity per gallon. If home I can produce 4 gallons a day but usually produce 1-3 gallons per day. A hard round ring of deposits builds up inside/bottom in the shape of a horseshoe where the heating element is attached. I usually clean it out every 3 cycles (3 gallons). Best way to clean is pour 1/2 cup of white vinegar with some water so an inch and a half is in the container. A couple hours later just rinse it out. It can be scrubbed out but you have to do it with tongs and a scrubber since your hand will not fit inside to get to the bottom. About every 20 gallons I scrub the entire inside because the plastic walls (metal bottom) get a soft buildup of deposits (easily removed). I use the distiller in my basement because it does give off heat, great for winter, but not for a hot summer day in the kitchen. I did run it once without a proper seal (lid not on right) and steam/water was leaking but it was just water so cleanup was simple. I do put hot water from the tap in it when I use it. Never tried it using cold water, probably will take longer. I hope it doesn't break before I break even with cost, but to date (26 Jan 11) it has never failed me. I reuse gallon distilled water bottles bought from the store. A few I have refilled more than 30 times each. You can refill right after it shuts down but be careful the interior is full of unpressurized hot steam. The only thing I don't like about the product is the delay of cleaning of the deposits (sits idle). We stopped making coffee here because (even after cleaning regular with vinegar) our coffee pots would fail in a couple months. With this cheap distilled water I can make coffee every day without damaging the unit. One last tip. Use a 5 gallon container with spigot and cap (large enough you can fit your hand into). This allows you to quickly empty the holding tank and start it again and allows you to build up a few gallons for filling gallon jugs as you use them in the kitchen. Hope this information was helpful.

Works fine for me Mar 30, 2010
By Beth Guynn My WaterWise 9000 has been reliable and produces water that tastes good.
I see that several of the people who wrote reviews have had a bad time. I'm sure that everything they say is true, but it hasn't been my experience.
I bought my unit in 2007 and have used it heavily ever since with no trouble. When it came I read the instructions, plugged it in and started distilling. I've been doing so ever since.
I love the fact that I don't have to lug water from the grocery store and that I am not sending a lot of plastic bottles to the recycling or trash.
It has been an excellent unit for me and I'm very glad I bought it.

UM there IS NO TIMER on this one!!! Apr 14, 2011
By michigan girl This has no timer fyi. This thing is great. Has lasted over 4 years. We usually start running it in the spring when the water co adds more chemicals to the water to counteract all the impurities in the water from flood waters, runoff etc. Anyone else notice the water tastes more bleach like in the spring? It is true. It won't hurt you but it tastes funny. This thing leaves all that behind. The one who reviewed this talking about the timer and all...thereIS no timer! I don't know what he is talking about. Yes keep the fans clear of all obstructions. Be home and awake when it is running. Anything that heats should be monitored and not left on or plugged in. I trust nothing to leave it plugged it all the time. But i have had no problem. Just add a bit of vinegar to the heating pot and some water and let it sit, and then it gets rid of all the built up minerals on the heating plate. Water tastes so clean. then I add True Citrus packets and it is so refreshing *(lemon lime or orange)
