Nice Quality - Reasonable price Jun 19, 2010

I just finished installing one of these on my home in Hawaii where we use rainwater catchment as our water source. I'm happy with both the quality and the price. I doesn't come with filters like many of the other UV units so you do need to add a filter and a pre-filter to the water line before it enters the UV unit. But even after adding two filters the price is still reasonable. The first unit arrived with a broken bulb but Amazon had a replacement to me within four days. The second had a broken glass sleeve so between the two I had what I needed. Note to Amazon: packing peanuts!

Great deal Jun 06, 2011
By joyesq I waited until I was able to use the system and test it for its disinfection capabilities before writing this review. I bought this system after reading a review from another Big Island native and he was right. I only attached one sediment filter before the system the UV system and the before-and-after UV system test showed an obvious disinfection of the catchment water without any effect on its taste (unlike chlorine tablets). Further, the 12 gpm meant no waterflow hesitation. I have not used any other UV system so I cannot compare this system with any other but for the price and its capability, this is a great deal.

UV disinfection system Aug 29, 2011
By Jan K Having read other reviews I was a little anxious about it arriving all in one piece. It was just fine which was a pleasant surprise. The unit is easy to install and the instructions are clear. The only problem with it is that the UV light generates LOTS of heat. So, if you don't run water for several hours or overnight, the unit gets hot to the touch and the water that sits in it during the lull is also pretty close to hot when it gets to your faucet. I called the manufacturer and they recommend putting it on a timer so that it goes off overnight or while you are away. But a quick midnight trip to the bathroom then defeats the purpose of the unit. We found that putting a small fan hung from the ceiling blowing on it resolves the heating problem and ensures that the water continues to be purified. Good value for the money.

By Nathan_in_AL I am fully satisfied with this solution; I just got done with installation. After reading other reviews I was terribly worried about damage in shipping, however, the quartz sleeve and lamp were individually wrapped in foam and inserted into a cylindrical cardboard holder capped on both ends with plastic.
I am using this with a water well that tests positive for total coliform bacteria yet is pristine with respect to mineral composition and pollutants. I decided to go UV versus chlorination due to water taste and ease of maintenance.
The ballast is a bit different looking from the product picture and resembles a larger AC/DC style transformer "brick". There is an LED indicator and audible alarm (continuous beep). The instructions recommended a GFCI receptacle, however, I've hooked it to my APC Smart-UPS 1250 for disinfection during power outages since I'm downstream from the well house by about 250 feet. A power outage with water usage would result in microorganisms passing.
The written instructions are clear and explanatory, be sure to follow these, the diagrams alone can be misleading especially as to where to insert the silicon washer.
The quartz sleeve inserts in and there is a spring at the opposite end of the tank to keep pressure on the sleeve against the end cap. Hand tighten ONLY.
The only downside thus far is the vinyl end-cap is cut like an 'X' and there is some light escape. I just grabbed a section of an old T-Shirt to prevent escape because it is in my field of vision depending on location due to how it's mounted.
Finally, the directions seem to suggest or indicate a mandatory water flow direction where the ingress is at the bell/curved end and egress is at the end cap, this isn't mandatory, the chamber itself is open to any flow direction and there are no restrictions or differences. The flow direction suggestion concerned me due to the way the house is plumbed there is no way to provide clearance for lamp removal while mounting the curved/bell at the water ingress point without excessive/sloppy plumbing.
The 'C' retention clips have a single screw hole in the center.
I hope this review helps answer some of the questions that go unanswered. Best wishes from Alabama.

bad packaging and hard to get parts Sep 05, 2011
By paul I failed to open the packages that the quartz glass tube and UV light came in until a plumber arrived today. Bought it on July 13. I missed the 30 day window by 11 days. Amazon can't help me and it seems Watt's does not sell replacement parts online.
I can't believe parts are not going to be available since they need to be replaced from time to time.
Nearest dealer is 300 miles away.
Not sure this was is going to be a good buy.
